Loring Hospital’s Healthiest State Walk Scheduled for October 4

Healthiest State Walk 2023 "Walk More. Connect More." l

The Loring Hospital Community Wide Healthiest State Walk is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, Oct. 4 from noon – 1 p.m. Community members are encouraged to walk to the John Criss Gazebo for a free lunch sponsored by SacFit Wellness Coalition. A group walk from the gazebo to Cattail Cove and back will begin at 12:30 p.m.

The 2023 theme is “#WhyIWalk”. Whether you walk to clear your mind, connect with family, for daily exercise, or just to take a work break, it is important to stay active for whatever motivates you.

Walking is an excellent way for most Iowans to increase their physical activity. “Studies have shown positive connections between walking and each your physical, mental and social health,” says Jill Williams, registered dietitian at Loring Hospital. “The Healthiest State Initiative’s annual walk is a great reminder to get outdoors and enjoy the beauty our community has to offer, while stepping towards the recommended 150 minutes of aerobic activity each week.”

If community members are unable to make the group walk, they are still encouraged and welcome to walk to Criss Gazebo to grab lunch.

The Healthiest State Initiative is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization driven to ensure that every Iowa has the opportunity to live their healthiest life. This annual walk is just one of the events geared towards inspiring Iowans while showing the nation the road to wellness.

Participants are encouraged to share their Healthiest State Annual Walk experience on social media using the hashtags #WhyIWalk and #LoringHospital. In the event of rain or inclement weather, the Healthiest State Walk will take place at the Sac Community Center. Please continue to check Loring Hospital’s Facebook page for updates.
