Loring Hospital’s Healthiest State Walk Scheduled for Oct. 1
September 23, 2025
Loring Hospital’s upcoming community-wide walk is taking place on Wednesday, Oct. 1 from noon – 1 p.m. The hospital is hosting the walk as part of the 15th Annual Iowa Healthiest State Initiative.
Community members are encouraged to join hospital staff for a group walk starting at the John Criss Gazebo at 12:15 p.m. A light lunch will be available at the John Criss Gazebo following the walk.
The event’s theme “#StartSomewhere” encourages participants to get out and walk for 30 minutes for whatever motivates them. Whether you walk to clear your mind, connect with family, for daily exercise, or just to take a work break, it is important to stay active.
“Studies have shown positive connections between walking and each your physical, mental and social health,” says Jill Williams, registered dietitian at Loring Hospital. “The Healthiest State Initiative’s annual walk is a great reminder to get outdoors and enjoy the beauty our community has to offer.”
If community members are unable to make the group walk, they are still encouraged and welcome to grab lunch at the John Criss Gazebo and celebrate taking steps towards a healthier Iowa.
The Healthiest State Initiative is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization driven to ensure that every Iowa has the opportunity to live their healthiest life. This annual walk is just one of the events geared towards inspiring Iowans while showing the nation the road to wellness.
Participants are encouraged to share their Healthiest State Annual Walk experience on social media using the hashtags #StartSomewhere and #LoringHospital.
