Loring Hospital Welcomes New Speech Therapist

Emily Scott, Loring Hospital's Speech Therapist

Loring Hospital’s Rehab Services Department recently welcomed Emily Scott, speech language pathologist (SLP), to the team in February.

Scott, who is a native of Lake View, graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in communication sciences and disorders. She then went on to earn her graduate degree in speech-language pathology at Minnesota State University - Mankato.

Since earning her graduate degree in 2023, she has provided services to patients with a large variety of diagnoses in various healthcare settings. Though she has a passion for working with pediatric patients, Scott works with children and adults of all ages to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognition, feeding, swallowing, fluency, voice disorders, and more.

“Being from Sac County, it has always been a goal of mine to serve this area,” says Scott. “Our rural communities often go underserved and patients find themselves traveling a distance to receive quality care. I am excited to join the Loring team in order to provide locals with high-quality care.”

Scott is also a certified SPEAK OUT! Therapy program provider. The SPEAK OUT! program, developed by the Parkinson Voice Project, helps people with Parkinson’s and related neurological disorders regain and retain their speech and swallowing. This evidence-based treatment combines education, individual and group speech therapy, daily home practice, and continuous follow-ups.

“Emily joining the team as a speech therapist will allow us to serve both pediatric and the adult population with developmental speech delays, feeding difficulties, autism, speech sound production, swallowing, Parkinson’s disease, and cognitive decline,” adds Luisa Ching, physical therapist and manager of Loring’s Rehab Services Department. “Emily’s expertise will allow the department to expand our services to provide extraordinary care, right here.”

Scott resides in Lake View. Outside of work, she enjoys walking her dog, running, and reading. To learn more about Scott’s services, please call Loring Hospital Rehab Services Department at 712-662-6347.
