L-R: Dr. Jason Dierking and Dr. John Armstrong

Loring Hospital is excited to welcome Dr. Jason Dierking and Dr. John Armstrong – both of Buena Vista Regional Medical Center (BVRMC) in Storm Lake – who will begin providing long term general surgery coverage at the hospital in early January 2020.

The same surgical services will continue to be provided at Loring, including EGD and colonoscopy, abdominal and laparoscopic hysterectomy, gallbladder removal, vasectomy, chemo ports, laparoscopic or non- laparoscopic hernia repair, laparoscopic tubal ligation, hemorrhoidectomy, and much more.  Just as what’s currently in place, emergency surgical services will not be available.

“Dr. Jason Dierking and Dr. John Armstrong are experienced, compassionate, and established local surgeons who will continue to provide the upmost quality care to all patients,” said Stacy Johnson, chief executive officer and chief financial officer at Loring Hospital. “I could not be more excited about the new partnership as this team has a focus of quality care close to home. To have a combination of consistency along with innovation is invaluable which is what these surgeons will be able provide.”

Dr. Dierking will perform surgeries at the hospital every other Wednesday, beginning Jan. 15, while Dr. Armstrong will perform surgeries every other Tuesday, starting Jan. 7. The scheduling between the two surgeons ensures consistent surgical coverage at Loring Hospital one day each week.

Dr. Dierking received his medical degree in 2002 from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in Iowa City. After completing his residency at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in South Carolina in 2007, he returned to his hometown of Storm Lake to open a practice in general surgery. He is a board-certified general surgeon and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He lives in Storm Lake with his wife, Erika, and two children, Emma and Cooper.

“I am thrilled to join the medical staff at Loring Hospital,” said Dr. Dierking. “I want to ensure patients continue to have the personal care of a hometown hospital while also having access to the most innovative and advanced surgical care available.”

Dr. Armstrong is a board-certified general surgeon who earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 2011. Following completion of his residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in 2017, Dr. Armstrong accepted a position at BVRMC as a partner of Dr. Dierking. He and his wife, Lindsay, reside in Storm Lake with their three children, Will, Blair, and Quinn.

“I’m very much looking forward to getting to know Loring Hospital patients and families,” said Dr. Armstrong. “I am passionate about offering high quality surgical care in a rural setting to keep services local and close to home for so many.”

Dr. Dierking and Dr. Armstrong strive to remain on the forefront of surgical advances to ensure patients receive the latest technologies and treatment options. Both are well respected and experienced surgeons who pride themselves with providing the highest level of patient care.
