Loring Hospital is pleased to welcome Dr. Reed Smith, DPM (Doctor of Podiatric Medicine), to the hospital’s group of specialty clinic providers. Dr. Smith will see patients at Loring Hospital on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month beginning Nov.12.

Dr. Smith treats patients of all ages for a wide range of foot and ankle conditions, including heel pain and sports injuries, diabetic foot complications, and arthritis. He also performs advanced procedures, including minimally invasive surgery, fracture and tendon repair, wound care, and reconstructive foot and ankle surgery.

“My passion for podiatry comes from the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in patients’ lives by helping them stay active, maintain their independence, and improve their overall quality of life,” says Dr. Smith, who is from Carroll, Iowa. “I enjoy all aspects of foot and ankle care, from non-operative treatment to complex reconstructive foot and ankle surgery. I believe in taking a compassionate, patient-centered approach, emphasizing education and involving patients in decisions about their care.”

Dr. Smith earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Morningside University before receiving his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from Des Moines University College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. He went on to complete a three-year comprehensive surgical residency at AdventHealth East Orlando in Florida, where he gained extensive experience in both routine and complex foot and ankle conditions.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Reed Smith to Loring Hospital,” says Matt Johnson, chief executive officer at Loring Hospital. “His expertise will enhance the high-quality care we provide locally while expanding access to comprehensive foot and ankle care for patients throughout the area. We look forward to the positive impact he will have on our patients and community.”

“I am excited to be a part of the team at Loring Hospital and have the opportunity to serve Sac City and the surrounding communities,” adds Dr. Smith. “Having grown up in rural Iowa, I understand the importance of having access to specialized medical care close to home, and I look forward to building lasting relationships with patients.”
