Loring Hospital is Here to Help During Medicaid Unwinding
April 25, 2023
At the end of 2022, President Biden signed an act ending the Public Health Emergency, effective May 11, 2023. This includes the end of the continuous Medicaid coverage that was offered during the pandemic.
Loring Hospital’s Business Office Manager, Mindy Steinkamp, explained that patients who rely on Medicaid for their healthcare needs will be asked to re-enroll for coverage, similar to how patients did prior to the pandemic. Some patients may have already received letters from the Department of Health and Human Services to re-enroll as the process started at the beginning of April and will continue to roll out in phases over the next 12 months.
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services will be conducting redeterminations through individual evaluations, which will be organized based on the scheduled renewal month of the patient’s coverage. Members who have not had a redetermination in the last year and members whose coverage was maintained due to the pandemic will be included in this redetermination.
If you have any questions or need help with your re-enrollment packet, please reach out to LeAnn Olhausen, social worker and Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) counselor at Loring Hospital, at 712-662-6406 or lolhausen@loringhosp.org.
