Over 60 people Rallied for the Cure on Thursday, September 6th at the Sac City Country Club during Loring Hospital’s Annual Pink Out Golf Tournament. The event, sponsored by Loring Hospital, builds awareness of breast cancer and educates women on the importance of yearly mammograms. The event also raises money for the Sac County Relay for Life. Loring employees will soon be making a $500 donation to the Sac County Relay for Life.
Forty-four women golfed, Loring Hospital employees worked games at the holes and even a few men were seen working the holes, including Bob Murley from Sac County EMS and Justin Wieck from UnityPoint Clinic. Games at each hole help raise money and make the event fun. This year’s new intriguing game was for the golfers to putt with a potato. Many flight prizes, longest drive, costume, cart decorating and door prizes were awarded to participants.
Education and awareness about breast cancer is also a major goal of the event. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. Getting regular screening tests is the best way for women to lower their risk of dying from breast cancer. Screening tests can find breast cancer early, when it's most treatable. Women age 40 or older should speak to their doctor about having a yearly mammogram if they are not doing so already.
“Along with golf, prizes, food and an evening of fun at our Annual Loring Pink Out Golf Tournament, we hope the women who attended got a reminder of the importance of early detection and their yearly mammogram,” said Nancy Houska, Loring Public Relations Director. “Three simple steps to early detection are regular mammograms, clinical exams and breast self-exams.”
