Healthiest State Walk Scheduled for Oct. 5
September 22, 2022
The Loring Hospital Community Wide Healthiest State Walk is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, Oct. 5 from noon – 1 p.m. Community members are encouraged to walk to the Criss Gazebo in Sac City for a free grab and go lunch sponsored by the SacFit Wellness Coalition and Food Pride. For those interested, a 30-minute group walk will start at 12:30 p.m. from the Criss Gazebo to Cattail Cove and back.
The 2022 theme is “Walk More. Connect More.” We know now more than ever, how important being both physically active and socially connected is to our physical and mental health. Walking is a great way to re-connect while engaging in 30 minutes of physical activity.
“Walking is a simple task for most individuals and has been linked to improvements in each physical, mental, social and emotional wellbeing,” says Jill Williams, registered dietitian at Loring Hospital.
If community members are unable to make the group walk, they are still encouraged and welcome to walk to Criss Gazebo at their convenience for a grab and go boxed lunch.
“I’m hoping that this year’s walk will not only promote overall health in Sac City, but allow our community to connect with the beauty of our downtown area while getting in some physical activity,” adds Williams.
The Healthiest State Initiative invites all Iowans to take this first step in building a healthier lifestyle and hopes that Iowans will make walking 30 minutes part of their daily routine.
Participants are encouraged to share their Healthiest State Annual Walk experience on social media using the hashtags #WalkMoreConnectMore and #LoringHospital. In the event of rain or inclement weather, the Healthiest State Walk will take place at the Sac Community Center. Please continue to check Loring Hospital’s Facebook page for updates.
Since 2018, the Healthiest State Annual Walk has also served as a kick-off to Healthiest State Month, happening throughout October, encouraging Iowans to practice the 5-2-1-0 Healthy Choices Count habits. To learn more, visit IowaHealthiestState.com/5210.
