Healthiest State Walk Scheduled for Oct. 2
August 28, 2019
The Loring Hospital Community Wide Healthiest State Walk is scheduled to take place at the Criss Gazebo in Sac City on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at noon.
The event’s slogan “Walk More. Connect More.” encourages participants to walk with a neighbor, friend, co-worker or family members. Following the walk will be a free Subway lunch – also at the Criss Gazebo – sponsored by Loring Hospital, SacFit Wellness Coalition, and Food Pride of Sac City. In the event of inclement weather, please meet for a walk and lunch at the Sac City Community Center.
“Walking is a simple task for most individuals and has been linked to improvements in each physical, mental, social and emotional wellbeing,” says Jill Williams, registered dietitian at Loring Hospital. “I’m hoping that this year’s walk will not only promote overall health in Sac City, but allow our community to connect with the beauty of our downtown area while getting in some physical activity.”
Since 2011, the Healthiest State Initiative has engaged hundreds of thousands of Iowans in schools, worksites and communities across the state to walk for 30 minutes. This year’s goal is to have at least one organized walk in all 99 counties with a total of at least 900 walks to celebrate the event’s ninth year.
The Annual Walk also serves as a kick-off to Healthiest State Month, happening throughout October, encouraging Iowans to “Live 5-2-1-0” and reminding them that “Healthy Choices Count!” To learn more about 5-2-1-0 Healthy Choices Count, visit www.iowahealthieststate.com/5210.
