Dr. Rick Unger to Provide Surgery Coverage at Loring Hospital

 Rick Unger, D.O., will provide general surgery coverage for Dr. Ronald Cheney at Loring Hospital in Sac City Sept. 10 – 26 while Dr. Cheney is on leave taking a mission trip to Africa.

Dr. Unger is a board certified general surgeon and will provide surgery services including laparoscopic, gynecological, endoscopy, tissue and breast, colon cancer, gall bladder, and hernia repair, among other surgeries. He will be available at Loring Hospital on Tuesdays and Thursdays to consult with patients and perform surgery. 

Born near Chicago, Dr. Unger graduated from A.T. Still University in Kirksville, Mo. He completed his general surgery residency in St. Louis at Deaconess Hospital, now part of the St. Luke Hospital system. He worked closely with Dr. Cheney at Mid Iowa Surgery. 

Dr. Unger has practiced medicine in Iowa and now travels all over the country to provide surgical coverage in rural, critical access hospitals.
