Auxiliary Makes Donation for Equipment
02/26/2010The Loring Hospital Auxiliary recently made a $3,600 dollar donation to Loring Hospital for needed equipment. Several departments at Loring are able to purchase equipment with the Auxiliary’s generous donation.
A new computer on wheels has been purchased for the patient care wing. Placing computing power at the point of care allows for patient information to be available on the spot to physicians and nurses. Time savings, work efficiency, improved care, and the ability to create a more accurate patient record are the main benefits of a computer on wheels. Patient information is near the patient without digging through paper records.
The Loring Radiology department has purchased a new digital scale to go with their bone densitometry equipment. Bone density scanning, important for both men and women, is an enhanced form of x-ray technology used to measure bone loss and diagnose osteoporosis. Osteoporosis most often affects women after menopause but is also found in men. Osteoporosis involves a gradual loss of calcium, as well as structural changes, causing the bones to become thinner, more fragile and more likely to break. Loring Hospital has offerd new bone densitometry scanning since the renovation of their facility. And with the additional of a digital scale from the Auxiliary, patients will benefit from the most accurate results.
Patients will soon notice a new blood draw chair in the Loring Laboratory. And the Loring business office is also in the process of purchasing new computer equipment.
The money donated by the Auxiliary is from proceeds from their luncheons and other fundraising efforts from members of the Auxiliary. Each year the Auxiliary has an annual meeting luncheon in October and spring luncheon in May. With their members, the Auxiliary is able to support Loring Hospital with donations for equipment along with their numerous volunteer hours spent at the Hospital.
